According to www.doh.gov.ph Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever is an acute infectious disease manifested initially with fever. It is transmitted by a day-biting mosquito called Aedes aegypti which lays eggs in clear and stagnant water.
Dengue usually starts with chills, headache, joint and muscle pains and pain behind the eyes. Sudden high fever which may last 2 to 7 days, weakness, and skin rashes. You may also experience nose bleeding when the fever starts to subside, abdominal pain, and vomiting.
Prevention and control of dengue requires eradication of the mosquitoes carrying the virus that causes dengue, according to www.medicinenet.com. To prevent mosquito bites, apply mosquito repellants, and wear long pants and long sleeves. It is also helpful to limit your exposure to mosquitoes by staying indoors two hours after sunrise and before sunset. Cover drums and water pails at all times to prevent mosquitoes from breeding. Clean gutters of leaves and debris so that water will not collect that may be breeding ground for mosquitoes. For more Prevention and Control tips, log on to www.doh.gov.ph.
There is currently no vaccine available for dengue fever, so prevention is still better than cure.
